Watch out Mona Lisa!

My friend, the talented Daniel Warren has drawn me. What an incredibly nice thing to wake up to. I am honoured :)
Now it's off to work and then out to dinner with my father and sister tonight!

Oh hi summer, there you are!

So where was summer back in June? Or July for that matter?
It's been so hot for the past few days, it's like summer is trying to fit itself in to one week, with full force. Next year, can you spread it out a bit more? I also hear that you've got a hurricane in store for us this weekend. Thanks a lot, Mother Nature.
Just staying in today, avoiding the heat, cleaning in spurts and drinking coffee. I'd attempt to go to the beach, but the 30 minute ride in my mothers non-air-conditioned, pleather seat oven on wheels, is just not tempting. I literally felt a drop of sweat roll down my shin yesterday while doing deliveries...my shin.

Shirt: Target clearance, around June.
Shorts: American Eagle
Scarf: Vintage
Not an especially remarkable outfit, but I'm a fan of this shirt and it's flowy-ness. Mum says it's the same color as my eyes. Which is a sick exaggeration.

Undercracker Love, August: The Vintage Style Bra

Bras, oh bras.
Now days, we have minimizers, Biofit and Body by Victoria, sports bras, and so on and so forth. Nobody ever wears the pretty lacy stuff unless they're in let's-get-some-mode. Which I think is kind of sad. I feel like lingerie celebrates the female figure, and we should enjoy it for ourselves, not just for the boy we're trying to please. Which is why I like vintage lingerie.
The designs, the material, the details...it was all better way back when, as opposed to the current trend of simply being scandalous, transparent and skimpy. While comfort and functionality are all very important, why is it that we only ever wear beautiful undergarments when we think that someone else is going to see them? This is why the word "lingerie" now holds dirty, slutty connotations.
Wear it for yourself, just try it. It's rather nice.

The two satin bras (zebra and polka-dot) are from Forever21, found them early this year. These are amazing in fit and comfort, and also convertible. Trust, from a 36C girl, these are honestly comfortable and supportive. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be selling these exact ones anymore, but the do have a similar, extremely cute style here. (Yes, I want this one too, but I'm holding off.) $8.80 a piece. You don't necessarily have to pay $40 for a decent good looking bra, I promise. Just try it out.

The remaining two are actual vintage pieces, found at Salvation army for about $2.00 each.
The plaid one is unfortunately of the cone-boob era. As much as I love vintage, I can never get into this. What I do love about this bra is that the entire functional structure is made from fabric and seams. There are no underwires, no elasticity. And the hardware...brass circles behind bows connecting the straps at the front, and then a pretzel-belt hookup in the back. The tag says "Charmode, Sears, Roebuck and Co." Charmode is apparently from the 60's and somewhat in demand.

The second one reminds me of Madonna back in the day, because of the circular seams around the cup. Also the hardware is entirely unique; hook-in-hole closures. It's by Hollywood Vassarette, and after some slight googling I have realized it might possibly fetch around $90 if I choose to sell it. Which would be an $88 profit. I might have just found a new carreer possibility.

I loves me a good package. (That's what she said.)

They're heeere! God almighty, it's so fun to get packages in the mail.
Thanks to picking up a kajillion extra hours at work this month, these shoes are mine, all mine. And after a crap-tastic start to the week, UPS had spectacular timing. Granted I would have liked them for Elliot's birthday party yesterday. Where I tried fish tacos for the first time. Sounds gross, amazing in reality. Happy birthday Elliot! Thank you for teaching me the ins-and-outs of baking, and good cooking in general.
The selling point to these heels is that they are adjustable from top to bottom. Not one single part of them hurts even a fraction. And the heel is tapered like crazy in the back.
Thankyou, Forever21. You have made this week just that much more tolerable with a smashing deal.
Still on sale, for $13.99 here.
Worn with dress from American Eagle, found at TJ Maxx last winter for $8, I believe. It caught my eye because it looks like Nova Scotia tartan. I got it for New Years, but now it's suddenly too big. Grandma has a project for herself when she gets back from Canada. She's going to kill me if I ask her to alter another item of clothing.
Also, F21 necklace and red belt found at salvation army.
In other news: Room is a mess, again.

The All-American Picnic.

Yesterday we all got together at Brittany G's house for a bbq summer party,
excellent times were had. I met up with a lot of friends I hadn't seen for a while.
There were hot dogs, beer, and an over abundance of cupcakes (I made mini-ones).
And oh the things you admit in a drunken game of never-have-i-ever...

Bat For Lashes/The Other Lives

Bat For Lashes was all sorts of ridiculously amazing. First off, I'd like to establish the fact that Natasha Khan can not possibly be human like us. She was like a tiny angel on the stage barefoot, and god DAMN that voice. She's cut from a different sort of cloth, I do believe...
The opening band was also amazing. I'd never heard The Other Lives before, but Gwen had and loved them, so it was a special treat for her. I'm on a download mission with them as the target today.
I had a tough time taking any good pictures. If you hadn't noticed already, my camera is kind of crap, no flashes allowed, and she was bouncing around everywhere. Even the bass was giving my camera the blurries. (Isn't that the best feeling, the bass pounding through you at live shows?) But I do like the way this one up top came out.
Gwen and I had a painful shoe sistership going on, and Russel thought this was ridiculous. He just doesn't understand that city nights call for heels.
Russ posted a video he found on youtube of the show last night! Yesss....
If you have the chance to see her live, doooo iiittttt.....

Work and the Real Boyfriend Jeans

"Are you wearing mens pants?"
Why, yes I am Donovin.
These are my boyfriend jeans. Real boyfriend jeans, in fact. Police cop gave them to me, as they were too small for him. I find this shocking, because they are big on me, and he's definitely the lanky one. I guess it's a matter of scale. I love them quite intensely.
Today I got to make peanut butter brownie cupcakes. I'd tell you the recipe, but I might be shot.
Also had Elliot's french onion soup and a Jackie Salad for lunch: Spring mix, diced red onion and tomatoes, chopped kalamata olives, covering a big huge pile of hummus.
Hummus has been my reason for living lately.
Now off to get ready for the Bat for Lashes show!
